In honor of Skincare Awareness Month, we sat down with our founder for a Q & A about living with psoriasis.
Q: How did you discover you had psoriasis?
A: “I had my first flare-up when I was 25. I came down with a cold, and since psoriasis is an auto-immune condition, that's what triggered it. It's been part of my life ever since.”
Q: How has psoriasis affected your lifestyle?
A: "It's definitely made me more conscious of how I treat my body. After my diagnosis I made the switch to a plant-based diet, started managing my stress more effectively, and shifted my focus to nourishing skincare. My diagnosis is actually what led to my curiosity about skincare. I worked with so many experts and learned so much from them over the years, so I launched SKKN BY KIM to share all of those insights."
Q: What's the most valuable skincare tip or piece of advice you learned?
A: "Instead of rinsing off your hands after applying skincare, rub whatever's left on the back of your hands. Signs of aging tend to be most visible where skin is the thinnest, so I always do this after applying each product."
Q: How has your perspective changed after 17 years of living with psoriasis?
A: "I've gotten to a place where I've fully embraced it. As long as I'm not in any pain, the flare-ups don't really bother me anymore. I hope that by not covering up my psoriasis, I can make anyone else struggling with something similar know they're not alone."
